UNILAG Distance Learning Institute (DLI)

The University of Lagos is a dual mode university established by an Act of Parliament in 1962 to deliver qualitative and research-based education to Nigerians and all those who have entered its domain in search of knowledge. It is prestigious, and the most preferred university in Nigeria.

The university is located in the cosmopolitan city of Lagos that has an estimated 22 million-person population. Due to its unique and cosmopolitan environment, the University was also required to provide facilities for studies through Open Distance Learning mode.

The Distance Learning Institute (DLI) is the organ of the University that operates and coordinates the Open and Distance Learning programmes. It has an enhanced status as that of a faculty in the University. It has its own Management Board and an Academic Board.

It is empowered to formulate its own policies, employ its own staff and be responsible for academic programmes, examinations, supervise its day-to-day affairs and generate funds for its operations.

The University recognizes that ODL is a veritable alternative to increase access to higher education in both developed and developing countries thereby providing unique opportunities to all lifelong learners.

 General Requirements For UNILAG Distance Learning Programmes

The following candidates are eligible to apply:

  1. Graduates of University of Lagos or any other University recognised by Senate with Degrees relevant disciplines.
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or National Diploma (ND) or National Certificate in      Education (NCE) in the relevant disciplines.
  3. Holders of recognised relevant full professional qualifications particularly ACA, ANAN, ACCA,      ACMA, ACIA, ACIS, ACIB and CII may be considered for admission at enhanced level provided they have five credits at WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (‘O’ Level) or its equivalent, which must            include English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other two (2) relevant subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.
  4. Holders of WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (‘O’ Level) or its equivalent with credit in five (5) subjects   including English Language, Mathematics plus any other three (3) relevant subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.

NOTE:   

(a) Point of entry for the eligible candidates as shown above will depend on details of their transcripts and such candidates must also satisfy the WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (‘O’ Level) or its equivalent as stated in 4 above.

(b) Applicants are to ensure all examination numbers and certificates of WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO “O” Level or its equivalent are inputted and uploaded on the portal.

(c) Applicants into year two (2) and year (3) presenting post “O” Level qualifications such as Degrees, HND, NCE, OND and professional qualifications are to send in their Academic Transcripts through the awarding institutions with application number as reference number to:

(f) The JUPEB/IJMBE certificate with appropriate credit points in Economics and other two (2) relevant subjects such as Accounting, Business Management, Geography and Government subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements. 
  3       (a) Graduates of University of Lagos or any other University recognised by the Senate with good honours degrees in relevant disciplines such as Actuarial Science, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Financial Studies, Insurance and Taxation excluding holders of degrees in Accounting subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(c) Full Professional qualifications in Associate of Institute of Bankers (ACIB) issued by Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria(CIBN), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) issued by Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA)  and Associate Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers(ACIS) subject to satisfaction of O’ Level requirements.
4B.Sc.  Public Administration1WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent with credits in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Government plus any other two (2)subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.

(c) The National Diploma (ND) with a minimum of Lower Credit in relevant fields subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements. 
(d) GCE ‘A ‘Level with at least Credit grades in two (2) relevant subjects in Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences except Commerce, Typing and Shorthand subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements. 
(e) The Joint University Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB)/The Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE)  certificate with at least Credit grades in three (3) subjects in Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences except Commerce, Typing and Shorthand subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(d) GCE ’A ‘Level with at least Credit grades in and Physics and Mathematics, subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements. 
(e) The Joint University Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB)/The Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE)  certificate with at least Credit grades in three (3) subjects: Physics, Chemistry and any one (1) of Biology or Mathematics subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.
3(a) Graduates of University of Lagos or any other University recognised by the Senate with honours degrees in relevant disciplines excluding holders of degrees in Physics subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements. 
(b) Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower credit in relevant disciplines such as ; Introductory technology/computer Science/Computer engineering/ Technology/Computer Science/Computer Engineering /Mechanical Engineering/Electrical and Electronics Engineering/Technical education subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Application will be in two stages: Part-Time JAMB Registration and DLI UNILAG
  2. Applicants for Distance Learning Institute programme shall not be less than 16 years of age by 31st October, 2023.
  3. Offer of admission into programmes listed above is subject to available number of qualified
  1. On-line Print out ‘O’ Level Results Slips are NOT ACCEPTABLE at the point of Registration.
  2. Candidates awaiting results are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
  3. Certificates and not Statement of Result Slips are acceptable for WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO results obtained before 2019.
  4.  All completed application forms are to be submitted on or before 15th December.
  5. There will be NO UTME Examination for Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos

How To Apply UNILAG Distance Learning Admission

You can apply for admission into the University of Lagos Distance Learning Programmes online via the official Distance Learning Institute Portal. Interested and qualified applicant should the step-by-step procedures that have been provided below:

STAGE 1:

Long on to JAMB CAP Website and Register (Part-Time)

Pay a sum of Three Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N3,500) to enable you obtain registration number

STAGE 2:

Step 1: Log on to UNILAG application portal http://applications.unilag.edu.ng

Step 2:  Click “Start Fresh Application”

Step 3:  Select Distance Learning Institute as application type, then supply your Surname, First Name, Middle Name, JAMB Registration Number, Mobile Number and Email Address.

Step 4:  Click the ‘’pay now’’ to pay online, the Application Fee of N17,500.00 (Seventeen Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) only, OR print the payment advice with Remita Number to make payment at any Commercial Bank.

Step 5: Return to the application portal (http://applications.unilag.edu.ng) after payment, click ‘’continue application’’, input your payment reference number and your surname in lowercase as password.

Step   6: Complete all required details and upload necessary documents.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Candidates must upload the under listed documents:   

  • Testimonial (Primary or Secondary)
  • Birth Certificate/Sworn Affidavit that predates the admissions advertisement
  • ‘O’ Level Certificate/All other Qualifications
  • NYSC Certificate/NYSC Exemption Certificate (for Direct Entry candidates)
  • Marriage Certificate and Newspaper classification (Married female only)

Step 7:  Complete the application form, submit online and print a copy.  (Applicant is allowed to save application form and later complete the form in case certain information are not readily available).
